DE CASTRO-APARRI ENTRY IS

2010 WORLD SLASHER CUP-2 SOLO CHAMPION

 

Long time partners Atty. Art de Castro and Eddie Aparri via their entry ART ED AS THUNDERBEE came from behind and overtook ten leading entries during last Saturday’s finals to bag the solo victory of the 168-entry 2010 World Slasher Cup-2 Hawaiian 8-Cock Invitational Derby at the Araneta Coliseum hosted by Pintakasi of Champions and co-presented by Thunderbird SabongNation.

A loyal Thunderbird – the winning formula user, Aparri, with de Castro fought a formidable fleet of 4-5 year old fighters composed of locally-bred crosses and a number of imported pure broodcocks.

“It’s gratifying”, says Aparri after sealing the championship and winning his first World Slasher Cup. He added that he’s been into the Sport for about 40 years and was already fighting in the big leagues even during the heydays of the Teresa Square Garden against the likes of James Chiongbian, Don Ricardo Silverio and Biboy Enriquez among others.

During the championship, the duo fielded full brothers of ¾ Leiper Hatch – ¼ Cowan Roundhead for their 5^th and 6^th fight and two 5 years old White-Legged Roundhead – Clarets brothers for their 7^th and 8^th assignments.

In the eliminations they unleashed two pure Sheryll Penny Hatches, followed with Johnny Jumper Greys in the semis.

A firm believer of lunar influence in the performance of fightingcocks as well a respected scales reader, Atty. de Castro has written numerous articles on “senyales” and color codes of feathers, however he never forget to say that it’s still good bloodline, good upbringing, good feeds and medicine such as those from Thunderbird and good conditioning that are the essential factors.

“We fought dark-legged fowls in the elims and semis, but on the finals, light-legged fowls were our choice”, de Castro revealed. “Apat na manok namin mamamatay na, nanalo pa”

As one former Slasher champ has observed, “normally, the one that scores four wins during the finals is the champion”, and, while the ten leaders faltered one by one, ART ED AS THUNDERBEE held its ground, winning over ENRICO OLINE WARRIOR 68 of EDWARD MANALESE in Fight#15; ANGEL EYES of P. NOGRALES in Fight#57; AHLAK DOLORES WWW of WILVIN SY in Fight#94 and BILLY REY of JOWAR BAUTISTA in Fight#128.

Asked what makes their 15-year partnership and friendship click, Aparri declared, “Walang marunong sa amin. We make it a point that we both need to learn continuously. We would pay P20,000 for a rooster, but would only bet P11,000. Si Art (de Castro) nga P3,300 lang”.

For its part, the Pintakasi of Champions expressed its gratitude to the participants thru Plaques of Participation and also announced the holding of the 2011 World Slasher Cup-1 on January 17 – 23, 2011.
